Customising Templates

Customising the Dawtek Online Templates

Dawtek Online provides do-it-yourself templates for use by small to medium businesses within Australia. We understand that it can be hard to find the time to create all of your business policies and procedures – that’s why we have done it for you! Our templates are easy to use and come with simple instructions to customise them to suit your organisation.

These templates are generic documents designed for most small businesses within Australia.  They may not however, be suitable for every company – please carefully read the Terms and Conditions and Return Policy. Documents are in Microsoft Word 97–2003 format. To open and customise these documents, Microsoft Word or a compatible reader must be installed on your computer.

When you purchase templates, the item(s) may be downloaded once you complete checkout. You will be required to create a username and password for Dawtek Online.  Usually you will download one (or more) Word document files. If you purchase a ‘package’, your download file will consist of one (1) Winzip (compressed) file, containing multiple Word document files. Some downloads include an instruction sheet (in .pdf format) but most templates have the instructions incorporated into the document that you download. Simply save the file(s) on your computer or network server, then customise with your company name, logo and any other required information.

General Instructions for Customising the Templates

  1. Save the documents with a new and meaningful file name, including your company name.
  2. Double click on the Footer, right-click on the file name text and select ‘update field’. Use the tab button to ensure the page number stays the same on the far right hand side.
  3. Double click in the Header and insert you company logo in place of the Dawtek Online logo.
  4. If applicable, add you company name and the name of the work or proposal to the title page (or page header) and the footer if required.
  5. Replace all words that are highlighted in grey. This can be done quickly and easily through the ‘Replace’ editing feature in Word. The two main instances you will find are Company and Managing Director. Therefore, change Company to the name of your company (not highlighted). And if Managing Director is correct, then simply un-highlight all instances. If the term Managing Director  is not applicable to your company then change this accordingly.
  6. If any sections of the document do not relate to the way your business practises, delete that section.
  7. Re-read your document before printing or sending and make sure you have replaced all parameter fields. There should be no highlighted text visible. Check all spelling and grammar.
  8. Please note that with regards to legislation, each state or territory may have its own specific, relevant legislation. In some instances, you will need to confirm your state legislation to in-put into the document and ensure compliance.
  9. Once you have compiled your document, update the Table of Contents to ensure headings and page numbers are correct (select table and press F9, ‘update entire table’).
  10. Ensure any shaded instructions (in italics )  are removed from the final document.

 Instructions for Replacing Highlighted Words

  1. Before you begin replacing the words that are highlighted in light grey, make sure that you select the light grey from the “Text Highlight Colour” button in the Font section.
  2. Click the 'Replace' button (Ctrl+H) under the Editing section.
  3. In the 'Find what' field, enter Company.
  4. Select 'More'.
  5. Select the drop down button 'Format' and click on 'Highlight'.
  6. In the 'Replace with' field enter the name of your company.
  7. Select 'Format'.
  8. Select 'Highlight' and then select 'Highlight' again so that “Not Highlight” appears under the name of your company.

You can follow these same steps for any other words that are highlighted in grey, such as Managing Director.
